About Santa Ynez Valley Community Outreach and SYV Meals on Wheels

Santa Ynez Valley Community Outreach (SYVCO) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (Tax ID #95-3169593) dedicated to providing essential services to seniors, veterans, and low-income families in our community. Founded in 1979, SYVCO encompasses a variety of programs, including SYV Meals on Wheels, the Buellton Senior Center, our Thrift Shop, Holy Grounds Coffee Shop, and a Free Daily Farmers Market.

Our mission is to improve the quality of life for those in need by offering nutrition, housing assistance, transportation, and medical support. We also provide critical services for victims of domestic abuse, including permanent housing assistance, counseling, and emergency support such as temporary housing and legal services.

SYVCO serves as an essential resource for our local veterans, including those who are homeless or at risk, helping them remain in our valley with the support they deserve.

SYV Meals on Wheels is one of our largest and most impactful programs, delivering nearly 400 meals daily to homebound seniors and veterans in the Santa Ynez and Los Alamos valleys. More than 80% of our recipients live below the poverty line and receive meals at no cost, yet we must still cover the cost of food, staff, and meal preparation. Last year, we provided 1.96 million pounds of food through our free Farmers Market, and our team continues to provide nearly 400 meals every day, ensuring our community’s most vulnerable members are not forgotten.

Our Buellton Senior Center plays a vital role by offering transportation to medical appointments, providing on-site assistance during appointments for clarity and support, and serving as a security blanket for seniors who have no nearby family. We also host social activities, provide a loaner closet for mobility equipment (wheelchairs, walkers, etc.), and operate a free Community Kitchen. The Senior Center is also designated as a Red Cross Emergency Center.

Despite these crucial services, our funding relies primarily on fundraisers, private donations, income from our Thrift Shop and Coffee Shop, and some grants and government support. In these challenging times, your support is more important than ever. Every dollar raised ensures that we can continue to provide life-sustaining services to those who need them most.
